As required by EU Regulation 2016/679 and current legislation on the processing of personal data, we provide the User (“Data Subject”) with information regarding so-called “cookies.”

What are Cookies and Navigation data?

Navigation data

The computer systems and software procedures used to run this website (hereinafter referred to as the “Site”) acquire, during their normal operation, some personal data (or “Navigation Data”) whose transmission is implicit in the use of internet communication protocols.

This category of data includes: IP address, date and time of connection, browser used and pages visited.

Cookies

Cookies are information that the websites visited by the user send and record on his browser, to then be re-transmitted to the same websites on the next visit. Precisely thanks to cookies, a site remembers the user’s actions and preferences so that they do not have to be indicated again when the user returns to visit that site or navigates from one page to another.
Cookies are used for different purposes. Cookies with technical purposes are necessary for the correct functioning of the service; other cookies are instead used for analysis activities, such as statistical analysis and service quality.

What types of cookies are there?

There are different types of cookies, the main ones are listed below and can be distinguished according to:

Duration

  • Session cookies: these cookies are not stored persistently on the user’s device and are deleted when the browser is closed. Unlike other cookies, session cookies do not have an expiration date.
  • Persistent cookies: these cookies do not disappear when the browser is closed, as is the case with session cookies; persistent cookies have an expiration date. This means that, for the lifetime of the cookie, the user’s information will be transmitted to the server each time they visit the website, or each time they view a resource belonging to that site from another site (e.g. an advertisement).
They are also used to store information (e.g. username and password) of users who have registered on the site, so they don’t have to enter these credentials each time they visit the website.

Origin

  • First-party cookies: normally, the domain attribute of a cookie will correspond to the domain displayed in the address bar of the user’s web browser; these cookies are sent to the browser directly from the site the user is visiting. This is called a first-party cookie. First-party cookies are managed directly by the site’s owner and/or manager.
  • Third-party cookies: these cookies belong to domains other than the one shown in the address bar; they usually appear when web pages have content, such as banner ads, from external websites. This involves tracking the user’s browsing history, and is often used by advertisers in an attempt to serve relevant and personalised ads to each user.

Purpose

  • Technical cookies: these cookies are used for navigation purposes or to provide a service requested by the user. They are not used for any other purpose and are usually installed directly by the data controller or website manager.
  • Functional cookies: these cookies boost the website’s performance to make the user’s browsing experience easier and more intuitive. They are used, for example, to keep track of the language chosen.
  • Profiling cookies: these cookies have the purpose of recognizing a user and his behavior over time in order to allow analysis and promotional activities. They can be installed, either by the site owner or by third parties.
